Program Description

The VA Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program awards funds to non-profit community agencies providing transitional housing and offering services to homeless Veterans, such as case management, education, and counseling. The goal of the program is to help homeless Veterans achieve residential stability, increase their skill levels or income, and obtain greater self-determination.

There are several transitional housing programs in Rhode Island funded by the VA as Grant and Per Diem sites. Veterans may stay for up to 24 months.

Services

  • Individual programs may vary slightly in their eligibility details, their documentation requirements, and the services provided. However, they follow the same basic guidelines.

Eligibility

  • Homeless.
  • Other than dishonorable discharge.
  • Sober.

Participating Programs

Holly Charette House: OSDRI

6-bed house for women in Johnston.

John Joyce House: The Providence Center 

12-bed house for men in Providence.
